RNLI New Brighton lifeboat station and New Brighton’s Light Cinema have got together to bring you a unique evening of films of classic maritime events of the last few years on Merseyside. In addition learn all about the work and history of Wirral’s three very different lifeboat stations in New Brighton, Hoylake and West Kirby.
It is an evening of short films produced by local award winning film maker Graham Mathews and have not been shown on the big screen before. If you missed the visit of the Three Queens to the Mersey, the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic or the last visit to the Mersey by HMS Liverpool or would like to see the events again now is the chance.
There have been lifeboat stations on the banks of the Mersey since the 1770’s and we will be showing a unique film by Graham covering the operations and history of our lifeboat stations on Wirral. Each station operate quite different craft designed for their specific rescue requirements from Hoylake who operate the RNLI’s latest all weather Shannon Class lifeboat, West Kirby’s three man single 50 hp engined D Class designed to handle the shallow waters of the Dee and Hilbre Island and New Brighton who operate one of four RNLI hovercraft in the country in addition to their high performance B Class rapid response lifeboat safeguarding the Mersey, Wirral and Sefton coasts.
